We only take small groups. The excursion size will be maximum of 8 persons. Great food & company, relaxed evening in a tranquil challet in the island of Medvästö in Kirkkonummi.
Enjoy our cozy sauna, swim on our own private seashore or warm up in our jacuzzi Everything taken care of you. All you need to bring is yourself & your driving gear. If you want, we’ll arrange you a bike, helmet and all the rest. All the trails are within a short distance from the accomodation.
To some, we’ll just ride from the challet on our bikes, for others we’ll take you with our minivan.
Local Trails in Kirkkonummi
The local trails in Kirkkonummi feature steep cliffs and beatiful lakes. The first day’s ride will be quite relaxed with some transition on asphalt/gravel roads, but also beatiful lake scenes, pine forests and cliffs. The goal is just to get aqcuanted with the bikes and get a bit of exercise. And if weather permits, hopefully catch that stunning sunset over the lake or sea. For the return we will be driving in the dusk with headlights. Upon returning to the Challet relax your muscless in our Drop pool, in the sauna and with a swim in the sea.
The National Park of Teijo
The national park of Teijo is in the South West part of Finland. This is a region known for its "ruukkikylät” (steel mill villages). These small villages were founded in the 17th Century around a dam and a steel mill and they have often stayed the same since. Visiting the villages is already an experience.
However, the ride here is definitely memorable. The ride in Teijo is approximately 30 kilometers, and will features stunning swamps, airy pineforests, magical streams and moss covered rocks, cliffs, several lakes. One of the lakes you will have to cross with a pull-along barge. Mostly the trail is quite fast and not very technical, but there will be a few places where skill is either needed, or then you’ll most likely will choose to push your bike.
Porkkala
Porkkala penisula is a long penisula just west of Helsinki. This is the place where the Gulf of Finland is at its narrowest and this area has historical significance because of that. The gulf is so narrow, that on clear weather you can see Tallinn from the tip of the peninsula (Pampskatan). However, we are not here for history lessons but for riding. As the Porkkala peninsula itself will be our shortest drive we will drive here straight from the Challet. The transition to the penisula is appr. 20 kilometers by the coastal line, with some asphalt, gravel and trail riding. The peninsula itself is only 5 km long, which we’ll drive back and forth, resulting in a total of 30km drive. -this will definitely be the top in the fun factor & sights. Porkkala features a cliff & rock playground where you can drive on the cliffs that have been worn smooth by both the sea and the ice age. The cliffs form multitudes of different route options and challenges. You can choose the easy route or the challenging MTB trial route.
Poronpolku (The Reindeer’s trail)
While you generally don’t find Reindeers this far south, this trail has been named after ten reindeers that were kept in this area during the 1960ies. Since then, the Reindeers have vacated the area, but the name stayed. Poronpolku mainly winds up and down “hiekkaharju” (a sandbank). These are common occurrences in Finland and were formed by the retreating ice age. The edge of the ice stayed longer in one place and all the sand and pebbles it was carrying were deposited into a ridge. These sandbanks will have their own unique ecosystem as the sand lets the water pass through quickly and nature have had to adjust to it. In these areas, you will always find aery pine forests, with blueberry bushes and other small twigs at the base. Here you will also see beautiful lakes and can find steep climbs and descents. There will not however be long constant climbs, rather expect an interplay of climbs and descents.
The trail we will drive here is appr. 30 kilometers.
Meiko
Meiko is a Natural Reserve in Kirkkonummi. The Meiko lake has very clear water, and it is actually the fresh water reservoir for the Kirkkonummi region. The trail here will feature beautiful lakes, pine forests and clean air. There are also some really scenic cliffs by the lake to provide us with stunning landscapes.
The Meiko is close by to our challet, and we’ll take the Meiko trail early enough in the morning to make sure you will have time to clean up & head to the airport before your flights on Monday.
